Becoming a member


  1. How long will it take to get my membership activated if I pay via foreign bank transfer?
    It takes between 10 and 15 days for the payment to clear in our bank account. Your membership will be activated once payment has been received.

  2. When will I receive my membership card?
    A confirmation of membership letter will be e-mailed to you as soon as your membership is activated. You can visit the Momentum Health mobisite to access your membership records. We will only issue a card if your cellphone can not access internet sites. If you require a membership card – please send your request to mhmembership@momentum.co.za. Please note you need to update your personal postal address for the card to be posted to you.   3. I have lost my membership card, how do I go about getting one?
    Contact our Customer Care Department and request for your card to be posted to you.

    We have on-site consultants at various Institutions where you could request/collect cards.

  4. How soon can I receive confirmation of membership?
    Within 24 hours after submitting a fully completed application, payment confirmation, passport copy and proof of studies ie. letter from University / learning Institution. The confirmation letter will be e-mailed to you.

    Please note that if the payment is made by a foreign transfer, the confirmation letter will only be issued once the payment reflects in Momentum Health's bank account. 

  5.  What postal address can I use, if I'm not yet in S.A.?
    Please provide the University's postal address if you don't have a valid S.A postal address is not yet established. Once you have confirmed your accommodation, please contact us to update your address.

  6. When should my membership start date be?
    Apply for membership from the 1st of the month that you arrive in S.A., which is usually the month you register for studies.

  7. What is a mobisite?
    A mobisite is a website designed or customised for mobile devices, such as cellphones, iPads, PDAs and similar products.

  8. What is so special about the mobisite?
    On the mobisite, users can:
    1. find a healthcare provider nearest to them
    2. view membership details
    3. send proof of membership
    4. view claims histories and more
  9. Once I've joined can membership be renewed and paid monthly thereafter?
    Membership can be renewed but not paid monthly. Please refer to the conditions of your study permit and University/Learning Institution registration requirements for duration of cover.
