For international students to register at a South African academic institution, it is compulsory to obtain a study permit for the duration of your studies. Many students join a medical scheme and only pay for one month's medical aid cover to get a confirmation letter and then cancel / suspend their medical cover thereafter. Please check the confirmation letter handed in with the study permit application, there should always be a specific end date.
For international students to register at a South African academic institution, it is compulsory to obtain a study permit for the duration of their studies.
All international students need to comply with the visa regulations as determined by the Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2002.
In terms of the Immigration Amendment Act 19 of 2004, any prospective student to the Republic of South Africa, must provide proof of medical cover with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 1998 (Act 131 of 1998).
