Cancel medical cover and refund

You may cancel your membership before your medical cover starts and apply for a refund.Please note: Only the principal member may request to cancel membership and we are not allowed to action requests from other parties to terminate the medical cover.

BANK DETAILS FOR CONTRIBUTION REFUND

What must I do first?

Your medical cover starts on the date indicated on your confirmation letter. If your study plans have changed, you need to let us know one month before your start date.

We cannot backdate any cancellation or change request, if we receive it late.

Types of refunds (the requirements and documentation to be submitted differs per type of refund)

  • Refund into student's own local South African Bank account
  • Refund into a third party's (someone else) South African bank account
  • Refund into South African Student Account (University/Institution/Sponsor)
  • Refund into student's own foreign bank account (outside South Africa)
  • Refund into a third party's (someone else) foreign bank account held outside South Africa
  • Complete the refund form - the form will indicate which sections you need to complete.

Please note the requirements and documentation to be submitted differs per type of refund

Pay my money into a South African bank account

  • Complete the refund form.
  • Send us a copy of the bank statement (not older than 3 months)of the account holder to receive the refund.
  • Send us a copy of ID/passport of the principal member and also of the account holder (if the account holder is a different person).

Pay my money into a non-South African (international) bank account

  • Complete the refund form.
  • A letter from the principal officer requesting the refund and including the banking details and the bank Swift code of the party/ person/ institution that made the initial payment to Momentum Medical Scheme
  • Copy of proof of payment made/transfer details
  • International bank's physical address details
  • Bank account holder's physical address details
  • If you paid with your credit card (Visa or Mastercard) through an account held outside South Africa, we need a copy of the bank statement that shows the transaction details.
  • As per the regulation of the South African Reserve Bank, a refund into a foreign bank account can only be made into the bank account of the person who made the initial payment.
